Start Saving on Auto Insurance

Start saving on July 2!

Everyone can save money but those with Qualified Health Coverage (QHC) will save the most. With these plans, you have the choice to OPT out of PIP Medical Coverage.

Qualified Health Coverage is:

  • Health Insurance that does not exclude coverage for motor vehicle     accidents and has an annual deductible of $6,000.00 or less per covered individual.
  • Medicare Parts A and B
  • Your employer or health insurance provider can tell you if you have QHC.

Savings aren’t automatic, you must act! Here's how:

  1. If you decide you want to keep UNLIMITED –you don’t need to do anything.
  2. If you want to select $500,000 or $250,000 in coverage contact your insurance company and ask them to make that change for you.
  3. If you have QHC and want to select NO PIP MEDICAL COVERAGE OR if you have Medicaid and want to select $50,000-You have to take a few more steps.

Employer Health Coverage

You can choose NO PIP Medical if your health insurance plan is a QHC so ask your employer, and If YES:

  1. Ask your employer who to contact for documentation. In some cases, its your employer, in some cases it’s your health insurance provider.
  2. The documentation needs to include a statement that you have qualified health plan, who is covered on your policy, the coverage period, a statement that your policy does not exclude coverage for motor vehicle accidents and has an annual deductible of $6,000.00 or less per covered individual.
  3. If you have a spouse or relatives living with you, you will need documentation showing that they have a qualified health plan, have an auto insurance policy that has PIP medical coverage.
  4. Once you get documentation, contact your Auto Insurance Provider and select your level of coverage. Tell them you want the $250,000 level with PIP exclusion.

If NO… you can still save on PIP, by selecting the amount of coverage that’s right for you.

Exchange Health Coverage

In many cases, health insurance purchased on the exchange would be Qualified Health Coverage

  • Contact your health insurance company to confirm
  • Request documentation confirming coverage for you and anyone on your plan-Must say it’s QHC, who is covered, coverage period, and a statement that your coverage does not exclude automobile accidents. Also need proof of coverage for spouse or any relative living with you.
  • Provide to your Auto Insurance Provider and select your level of coverage.

Medicare Health Coverage

Medicare with both Parts A and B is Qualified Health Coverage so you can choose NO PIP Medical Coverage

  1. Contact your Auto Insurer and let them know you have Medicare and are looking to opt out of PIP Medical.
  2. You will need your Medicare card that shows that you have Medicare Parts A and B.
  3. If you have a spouse or relatives living with you, you will need documentation showing that they have a qualified health plan, are on Medicare, or have an auto insurance policy that has PIP medical coverage.

Medicaid Health Coverage

You can’t OPT out, the minimum you can select $50,000 in PIP Medical Coverage

  • Let your auto insurance know you have Medicaid and would like to select the $50,000 coverage level
  • Any spouse or resident relative must have QHC, also be on Medicaid, or have an auto insurance policy that has PIP medical coverage
  • Present your Medicaid card and documentation showing coverage for spouse or resident relative.
