Coleman A. Young Recreation Center

Located in District 5 on the Southeast side of Detroit, Coleman A. Young Recreation Center opened in 1980, designed by architect William Kessler & Associates using glass & masonry, soft hues and large lobby areas flooded with light. Enjoy swimming, racquetball, boxing room and tennis / pickleball courts. Coleman A. Young was Detroit’s first African American Mayor serving from 1974-1997. Prior, Young served our nation as a US Senator, Tuskegee Airmen during WWII and an activist in the Civil Rights Movement.
