The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood and Community Safety (MONCS) works to prevent violence and strengthen safety in Detroit neighborhoods through community-driven solutions. The office brings together violence prevention programs, survivor support services, and re-entry initiatives while coordinating efforts across city departments, community groups, and service providers. Its goal is to address the root causes of violence, expand prevention efforts, and ensure every Detroit neighborhood has the resources and partnerships needed to be safe and thriving.
MONCS works closely with the Detroit Police Department, the City's Community Violence Intervention team, Ceasefire Detroit, and other community groups.
Community Violence Intervention (CVI)
Community Violence Intervention (CVI) is a community-led approach to preventing shootings and homicides by building relationships with people most at risk, mediating conflicts before they become violent, providing mentorship and connecting individuals with support services. Through ShotStoppers, local CVI groups receive funding to carry out targeted strategies in areas with high rates of violence, with additional grants tied to measurable reductions in shootings and homicides.
Ceasefire Detroit
Ceasefire Detroit is a community-based violence prevention partnership committed to changing community norms.
