Blight to Beauty Corridors Project

We engage property owners to meet minimum maintenance standards.

Our goal is to increase awareness of the minimum standards of City of Detroit property maintenance code, and engage property owners, residents, and visitors to  remove blight and maintain their properties,  so that buildings, structures and grounds on Detroit properties do not contribute to blight nor adversely affect the public health and safety of the surrounding community.

Since the city is large and there is a lot of work to do, we have started on eighteen (18) commercial corridors in the city: Eight Mile, Fenkell, Grand River, Gratiot, Harper, Jefferson, Livernois, Mack, McNichols, Michigan, Mt Elliott, Plymouth, Seven Mile, Van Dyke, Vernor, Warren, Woodward, and Wyoming.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

This is the blight ticket and remediation process. You can halt the process at any time by contacting the inspector or the Blight to Beauty office to discuss your situation. We want properties to be maintained by their owners, not to generate fines and fees.

A notice of violation lets you know that there is a problem on your property that must be fixed. The notice (correction order) will include the name and phone number of the property maintenance inspector. CALL THE INSPECTOR if you have any questions or need to request additional time for corrections.

                                                      
If you don't correct the violation before the due date, the city is authorized to enter your property and complete the clean-up. The costs of cleanup are the responsibility of that property owner. Cleanup costs to date average $2,000 to $20,000 for city remediation
