Anthony (Tony) Watts was appointed Director of Special Projects for the Detroit Fire Department in 2022. In this role, he manages the innovation and efficiency of the department by overseeing numerous initiatives, including the DFD Drone program, the annual Professional Development Conference and the Policy Implementation and Governance Committee.
Watts joined the Detroit Fire Department in 1998 and spent his entire time in Fire Operations at Engine 54, on Detroit’s West Side, where he rose up the ranks and worked in collaboration with many of the department’s other divisions to serve the citizens through community outreach, data analytics and training. After 15 years of fighting fires, Watts transitioned to the Detroit Regional Training Center, where he served as a Fire Instructor-Lieutenant, where he specialized in course design and program development.
