The Building team is responsible for performing inspections of construction on building permits, to ensure that structures meet approved plan specifications, and comply with building codes and standards.

In addition, the Buildings team inspects wrecking, signs, and awnings, processes insurance escrow accounts for fire repair and complaints related to construction activities, and issues certificates of occupancy only on new constructions.  Current Code Editions: 2015 Michigan Building Code, 2015 Michigan Residential Code.

The Buildings team provides testing for applicants seeking to obtain contractors licenses for sign erectors, awning and canopy erectors, and demolition. The Building team also approves registration with the City of Detroit for all licenses issued by the State of Michigan for residential builders, maintenance, and alteration contractors.
