The City of Detroit Construction and Demolition Department is thrilled to announce the return of Detroit Demolition Week, starting Monday, April 7, to Friday, April 11. This annual event is dedicated to educating, engaging, and empowering residents by providing insight into the City’s demolition efforts and their role in transforming neighborhoods—building transparency and dismantling misconceptions. 

"Demolition is more than just tearing down buildings—it’s about rebuilding communities and restoring hope,” said Director Tim Palazzolo, Construction & Demolition Department. “Detroit Demo Week gives us the chance to connect with residents, answer their questions, and show firsthand how our work is transforming neighborhoods. We’re committed to transforming Detroit’s neighborhoods from blight to beauty, one demolition at a time."  

WHAT: Detroit Demo Week is a series of interactive events designed to foster community trust, promote neighborhood revitalization, and encourage civic involvement. Highlights include Donuts & Demo Day, a Career & Resource Fair, a Community Forum on the demolition process, and the spring kick-off of Cruisin’ With Counts. Residents are encouraged to attend and be part of Detroit’s transformation. Residents are encouraged to attend and take part in learning about the Citys Demolition efforts. 

WHEN:  Monday, April 7th to Friday, April 11th each day features different activities emphasizing community, and is as follows: 

Monday, April 7 – Donuts & Demo: Experience a Live Demolition Up Close!| Time & location announced on social media: Facebook | Instagram | X
Kick off Demo Week with coffee, donuts, and a front-row seat to a live demolition. Meet the team behind Detroit’s blight-to-beauty transformation and see progress in action while engaging in a live Q&A 

Tuesday, April 8 – Building Dreams: Career Talks with Detroit’s Youth| Not Open to the public
Construction and Demolition Department will visit a local school to inspire students about careers in the skilled trades, sharing valuable insights to empower the next generation of builders. 

Wednesday, April 9 – Build Your Future: #TakePart in Detroit’s Citywide Career & Resource Fair | 10 AM – 1 PM | Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Rd
Connect with Detroiters seeking career opportunities in construction and skilled trades. This event also provides access to essential City resources, fostering economic growth and empowerment. 

Thursday, April 10 – Demo Week Community Forum: Understanding the Process, Shaping the Future |5:30 PM – 8 PM (Resource Fair: 5:30-6PM) | Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Rd
In collaboration with the Detroit Land Bank Authority and the Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department, this interactive forum provides residents with a transparent look at the City’s demolition process and ways to get involved. 

Friday, April 11 – Spring Kick-off: Cruisin’ With Counts |Time & location announced on social media: Facebook | Instagram | X
Join us for the spring kick-off of Cruisin’ With Counts, a community initiative where residents and City officials tour neighborhoods to identify and address blight. Together, we’ll work to create a cleaner, safer Detroit.
