Deputy Chief
Daniel Clapp was appointed to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief in May 2024. In this role, he oversees several critical functions of Fire Operations, including managing all disciplinary, overseeing the Trial Firefighter (TFF) program, managing the citywide Hydrant Inspection Program, supervising the creation, review, and accessibility of Pre-Fire Plans, and coordinating injury reporting, light-duty assignments, and return-to-work processes to support member recovery. Clapp also leads efforts to standardize operations and training across all companies and conducts comprehensive annual inspections of personnel, quarters, and apparatus, managing form development to support operational efficiency.
Clapp joined the Detroit Fire Department in June 1995 and during his time in the fire house, was honored to receive the Detroit Public Safety Foundation Medal of Valor in recognition of distinguished service.
Clapp holds an associate degree in Criminal Justice, a bachelor’s degree in fire science, and a master’s degree in public administration. Clapp also graduated from the Staff and Command in Executive Fire Leadership Program and was recently accepted into the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
