How do I get on the Board's Agenda?

You can be placed on the Board Hearing's Agenda if you are an applicant for a City of Detroit Wrecking License.

Who can attend a Board of Wrecking Contractors Examiners Hearing/Meeting?

Anyone can join in on the meetings and hearings. Each meeting is open to the public, just find the event on the City Website and a link will be provided for you to join us. 

Meetings also include opportunities for the public to make any necessary statements or inquiries to the Board. 

I submitted my application online but I have not gotten a call or an email back. What's happening?

If you submitted your wrecking license application online through ELAPS and you haven't been contacted, you can confirm its submission by emailing Administrative Officer Kimberly F. Davis at [email protected] or Assistant Chief Robert DeBerardino at [email protected] 

Where is the exam for the Wrecking License held?

The exam for a City of Detroit Wrecking License is held at 2 Woodward Ave, Suite 408, Detroit, MI 48226.

If you fail the exam, you can reschedule for another attempt on another day.

There is no study guide for the exam.

When do submit my application?

Your application must be submitted more than two weeks away from the next available hearing to ensure a place on the agenda.

If the next meeting is on February 16th, you must submit your application before or by January 31st.

What type of Wrecking Licenses are available?

There are five types of licenses:

Class A Restricted – Contractor permitted to wreck only commercial structures.
**Class A Unrestricted – Contractor permitted to wreck commercial and residential structures above 35ft in height.
Class B Restricted – Contractor permitted to wreck commercial structures not exceeding 3 stories or 35ft in height.
**Class B Unrestricted – Contractor permitted to wreck commercial and residential structures not exceeding 3 stories or 35ft in height. Must possess a valid residential buildings state license.
**Class C – Contractor permitted to wreck residential structures only. It allows the potential licensee to apply for the license after showing the experience of wrecking (5) five residential structures. The (3) three-year requirement has been removed, providing a shorter window for getting into the wrecking business in the City of Detroit.
**Michigan Residential Builders or Maintenance and Alteration Contractors License is required.
