City to Close Portion of Larned Monday Morning to Address Roadway Safety Issue
Lodge exit to Larned to be closed for Monday morning rush hour.
The City of Detroit is announcing that it will close a section of Larned Street between the Lodge Freeway and Griswold Monday morning to address a roadway safety issue.
On Sunday, city workers noticed a significant cavity below a portion of Larned near Shelby. The cause of the cavity is unknown at this time, however due to its size, city officials decided that as a precaution it would be necessary to close access to Larned between the Lodge and Griswold so crews can excavate and determine the cause of the issue and then repair it.
The city is working with the Michigan Department of Transportation to close the Larned Street exit from the Lodge Freeway prior to rush hour Monday morning. It is not known how long the closure will need to remain in effect. Motorists coming downtown are encouraged to use Bagley or Jefferson as alternate exits from the Lodge.
DDOT and SMART traffic on some routes will be rerouted to the nearest accessible bus stop at Spirit Plaza. Local access on Larned will be available via Washington Boulevard for the Foundation Hotel and Crown Plaza Detroit.
The city will provide updates as warranted throughout the day on Monday.
