Master Plan Amendment + Rezoning Historic Fort Wayne Strategic Plan

Administrative Summary
The final Historic Fort Wayne Strategic Plan is a document that will guide Historic Fort Wayne on its path toward sustainable operation. It was produced by the City of Detroit General Services Department with the generous support of the National Park Foundation and the Kresge Foundation. The plan includes recommendations on interventions including stabilization of vacant buildings, solicitation of support and guidance from public, private, and nonprofit partners, and finding new and compatible uses for presently vacant buildings. To achieve this, the City will rezone Historic Fort Wayne from R1 (single family residential) to PD (planned development) and also proposes to update the the Future Land Use map in the Master Plan of Policies for the area generally bounded by the Detroit River, Rademacher St. (extended), W. Jefferson Ave., and Calvary St. (extended) from PR (Regional Park) to INST (Institutional) to allow for the rezoning of the property and the potential rehabilitation and leasing of the buildings to various entities.   More information can be found at

Note: There is no funding attached to the rezoning application, the Master Plan Amendment or approval of the final strategic planning document, but both will enable GSD to peruse grants, partnerships and other avenues to get investments in Fort Wayne.
