This innovation grant funds the extraordinary ways that nonprofit arts and culture organizations are evolving in response to—or in spite of—the COVID-19 crisis environment. Proposed projects should represent bold moves, novel experiments, or big risks undertaken given opportunity or crisis specifically generated by COVID-19. They should aspire to produce long-term benefits for the organization and be the result of discussion, consultation, and buy-in across functional areas of the organization. Eligible applicants to the innovation grant program are 501c3 nonprofit organizations in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, and St. Clair counties whose primary mission is grounded in the arts and culture sector. Funds should be used to pay for expenses including staff payroll costs (including healthcare), artist or contractor fees, operating expenses, and project costs relating to innovation sparked by COVID-19. Organizations receiving an award, will be expected to participate in an approximately 90-minute reflection session six months after receiving funding to share their progress and learnings with peers.

Bundled-up, physically-distanced, joyful choir performances. Stirring live excerpts from a theatre piece in a snowy park. Crafty grab-and-go art kits for walkers-by. What outdoor, socially-safe arts programming can you and your organization dream up this winter?
In an experimental shift, this year’s CulturePop program calls for new ideas for and approaches to outdoor, physically-distanced arts programming in downtown Detroit. CultureSource member organizations are invited to apply for $5,000 to activate select downtown parks with logistically-simple arts and cultural programming during the month of December. Organizations receiving an award will be expected to participate in an approximately 30-minute reflection session to share their work and learnings with fellow CultureSource member organizations.
Flourish Fund: A Partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and CultureSource
The Warhol Foundation’s regional re-granting program was established in 2007 to recognize and support the movement of independently organized, public-facing, artist-centered activity that animates local and regional arts scenes, but that lies beyond the reach of traditional funding sources. More information will be announced here in late November.
