City, Partners launch effort to feed employees on front line of COVID-19 crisis and support Detroit restaurants

  • Restaurants can sign up to participate today at feedthefrontlinesdetroit.com
  • Meal delivery to hospitals, police precincts and fire houses to begin Wednesday
  • City expects to distribute more than 10,000 meals

In support of those on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, Mayor Mike Duggan announced today that Detroit police, EMS, fire, healthcare employees, and other front line workers will receive free meals, thanks to a partnership with the City of Detroit, Angel Share, business and community leaders.

The Feed the Front Lines effort will help Detroit restaurants and caterers whose businesses have been seriously impacted by the crisis.

How it works

  • Restaurants can sign up at www.feedthefrontlinesdetroit.com and provide restaurant name, capacity, cost per meal (for a set menu), and other information
  • City of Detroit staff will evaluate the submissions and select the restaurants/caterers to provide the meals
  • City of Detroit staff orders meals and coordinates with first responder liaisons to arrange meal deliveries
  • Financial contributions are also needed. Donors also may go to www.feedthefrontlinesdetroit.com to contribute.

The www.feedthefrontlinesdetroit.com website went live Monday, April 6, and meal deliveries are scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 8. More than 10,000 meals will be delivered throughout April to Detroit hospitals, police precincts, firehouses, and DDOT terminals said Mayor Mike Duggan.

“We need to support our first responders and our struggling restaurants, and Feed the Front Lines Detroit does both of those things,” Mayor Duggan said. “It’s going to take everyone working together in new ways to get through this crisis, and I can’t thank all of our partners enough for their commitment to those on the front lines of our COVID-19 response.”

The effort is a partnership with a number of Detroit organizations and companies, many of whom came forward to offer financial support upon learning of the initiative:

  • AAA - The Auto Club Group is offering financial support and Roadside Assistance Vehicles to assist with delivery
  • Ally Financial
  • Angel Share, Inc.
  • Big Sean
  • Boji Group
  • Diversified Members Credit Union
  • Tony Michaels and The Parade Company
  • Quicken Loans Community Fund will match online donations to $25,000 as a part of its Thank You Effort for Critical Workers
