Toilet Replacement Pilot Program

THIS PILOT PROGRAM HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) conducted a pilot program in 2018 to help households reduce their monthly water and sewerage usage by replacing 3.5 gallon or more per flush toilets with 1.3 gallon per flush units. During the pilot, 550 toilets were upgraded at 406 Detroit households. Water usage was reduced by 28% on average, resulting in an average monthly bill reduction of 23%.

DWSD is in the process of designing a citywide toilet replacement program and will announce it at a later date.
