Electrical Inspection Team

The Electrical Inspection Team of BSEED's Construction Division is responsible for conducting inspections of permitted work, periodic inspections of buildings, and Electrical Licensing examinations. The City of Detroit issues trades permits to protect the public by ensuring that work is being performed by qualified and licensed people and meets the code standards.

Effective April 4, 2017: The Skilled Trades Regulation Act: Public Act 407 of 2016 was adopted. This Act supersedes the Electrical Administrative Act: Public Act 217 of 1956. Effective February 8, 2016: The 2015 Michigan Residential Code for one and two-family dwellings was adopted by the State of Michigan, and thus on the same date, will be enforced in the City of Detroit. Due to this new adoption, any electrical permits issued on or after February 8, 2016, will be held to the 2015 Michigan Residential Code.

Effective January 4th, 2019: The 2017 National Electrical Code and Michigan Part 8 Rules were adopted by the State of Michigan, and thus on the same date, will be enforced in the City of Detroit. Due to this new adoption, any electrical permits issued on or after June 18, 2016, will be held to the 2017 National Electrical Code and Part 8 Rules.
