Lead Program
The Lead Prevention and Intervention Program seeks to eliminate childhood lead poisoning by increasing awareness regarding the hazards and sources of lead, identifying and caring for children from birth through six years of age and pregnant persons who have elevated blood lead levels (EBLL) and identifying and eliminating sources of lead exposure. We provide lead nurse case management, non-nursing case management, lead education and testing (capillary/venous confirmatory), referrals to community and health care partners as well as referrals for lead abatement and inspection.
The Lead Program:
- Provides case management, including home visits, from advocates and nurses
- Educates community members and professionals.
- Highlighting the work of City of Detroit Departments surrounding Lead – Housing, Water, and Health.
- A free program to remove lead-based paint hazards in homes where children under the age of 6 are living, including pregnant persons. This includes ANY home where children would be living or visiting six hours a week.
Lead Testing is available at the Detroit Health Department every Thursday during normal business hours.
