For the second year in a row, most Detroiters will see a reduction in the assessed values on their homes when they receive their annual Notice of Property Assessment, Mayor Mike Duggan announced today. 2015 Assessment notices are being mailed next week and will start arriving in mailboxes soon.

S.A.Y. DETROIT, Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford, and City of Detroit Partner to Reclaim Abandoned Rec Center, Create Unique New Facility and Programming
S.A.Y. Detroit, in partnership with the City of Detroit, and Score7 Charitable Fund (Matthew Stafford’s Charitable Foundation), today revealed plans for a unique new Academics and Sports Program, called the S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center (Sports, Academics, Youth) reclaiming an abandoned recreation center in Lipke Park, that was closed in 2014 due to city budget cuts.

City of Detroit and the Detroit Land Bank Authority Propose New 50 Percent Housing Discount for City Employees, Retirees, and Their Families
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and representatives of the Detroit Land Bank Authority today announced a plan to give a 50% discount on houses bought through the Detroit Land Bank’s housing auction program at BuildingDetroit.org.    The plan was approved by the Detroit Land Bank Authority last week and is being submitted to the Detroit City Council today for approval.

The City of Detroit and the Arboriculture Society of Michigan (ASM) have partnered for a Day of Service in Detroit to help remove dead ash trees from the area surrounding Heilmann Recreation Center, located at 19601 Crusade, on Friday, January 23. Crews will work in two shifts: from 7:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., and from noon - 4 p.m.

Mayor Duggan Announces New Program to Prepare Up to 900 DPS students for Employment Opportunities After Graduation
Mayor Mike Duggan announced today that USA Funds has made a $1.25 million commitment to improving graduation and employment opportunities for Detroit Public Schools (DPS) students through the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates program. With this investment, up to 900 DPS students will receive instruction in job attainment and retention, leadership, and self-development paired with mentoring, academic support, and exposure to employers.

The North American International Auto Show’s annual Charity Preview is expected to bring thousands to Cobo Center on Friday, January 16, 2015. The Detroit Police Department is encouraging individuals traveling to downtown to leave for their destinations early and use alternate routes. Congestion and delays are expected on the southbound John C. Lodge Freeway beginning around 5 p.m.
