DDOT Improves Service for Residents

In the past, the Detroit Department of Transportation has had trouble finding the resources to be successful. Many DDOT riders have dealt with late buses and being passed by buses that were too full. Many residents rely on the bus service to get to and from work on a daily basis, which is why Mayor Duggan was adamant on improving bus service. 

Mayor Duggan made it a point to take action and fix the issues that were making life as a Detroiter more difficult. Over the last two years, DDOT has undergone major changes including adding more buses to the fleet, hiring more drivers and launching the DDOT mobile application.

Since last year, DDOT has acquired 80 new buses and hired more bus drivers and mechanics. With help from Vice President Biden and federal funding, some of the new buses were 60-foot articulated buses that will be stationed along Detroit’s busiest roads. These changes allowed DDOT to make the scheduled pull-out time for the first time in years. 

DDOT also posts all of the bus schedules online and through their new mobile app. The application allows DDOT riders to lookup all of the bus routes along with estimated arrival time. The app shows where the nearest stops are and has a trip-planning feature.
