Motor City Match: Building and Expanding Businesses in Detroit

Motor City Match is a program that gives businesses and building owners a chance to work with each other in order to grow more businesses in Detroit. The relatively new program has made an impact for many startup companies and established businesses.

Jill Ford, Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the City of Detroit, works closely with businesses and building owners who apply for Motor City Match to help them understand how the program works. Jill encourages entrepreneurs to apply who are in different phases of the business cycle, whether that is the initial idea phase, or if a business has an established customer base. Motor City Match is designed to evolve businesses in Detroit, which is why there are two separate application tracks.

Building owners can apply for Motor City Match if they own a commercial business space in the city of Detroit. The building must be structurally sound and in good standing to be able to benefit the community.

Entrepreneurs can apply for Motor City Match if they have an established business or if they have an idea for a business. Applicants who have established businesses must be willing to locate in the city for at least two years while demonstrating benefits to the community.

Motor City Match is accepting applications now through October 1 for business owners. For more information about Motor City Match, visit http://www.motorcitymatch.com/.
