If you want to live or work in Detroit, there are opportunities for you!!
Betty Henderson is a happy homeowner who has been living in Detroit for over 15 years with her husband on Detroit’s east side. The Hendersons were renters up until 2013 when they were able to purchase the home they had grown to love. As new homeowners, they quickly realized how much repair work needed to be done, so they started saving money to fix it up.
In March, Betty saw a news story about Mayor Duggan’s no-interest home repair loans and was immediately intrigued so she went on the city’s website to learn more about the program. She was able to pick up an application from her local intake center and went through the qualification process, which, according to her, was “easier than expected”. Soon after she qualified, she worked with the city to find a qualified contractor to do the necessary repairs on her home and she is extremely pleased with the work they’ve done.
“This program came just in time,” Betty says. “We were already saving money to repair our home and now we only have to pay back what we’ve borrowed so it has worked out really well for us.”
